How often and how long will we meet?

In most cases you and your therapist will agree to meet once a week for a 45-minute session. However, the total number of sessions depends on the goals you set for therapy and your personal pace. Once you begin experiencing the movement and momentum you desire, we will shift to meeting every other week and eventually scheduling as needed.

How private is therapy?  Do our conversations remain confidential?

Yes, therapy is absolutely private.  With few exceptions, all communications with your therapist remain completely confidential as required by federal law, namely by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

There are specific situations where your therapist is required to release information.  For the protection of your privacy, in such situations your therapist will limit the disclosure to only what is absolutely necessary.  Examples of these situations include:

  • The client authorizes the release in writing
  • The therapist is ordered by a court to release information
  • The client presents a physical danger to self or others
  • Child, elder, or vulnerable adult abuse or neglect is suspected
